AS DUBLIN prepares for the arrival of judges who will decide whether Ireland’s fair city will be put on the shortlist as host city for European Capital of Culture in five years’ time, the Dublin2020 team have released a special video to celebrate the city through words, images and animation.

‘Dublin You Are’ is based around the words of poet Stephen James Smith and features illustrations by Aoife Dooley, best known for her witty strip, ‘The Dublin Hun’.

The project is a collaboration between a number of Dublin-based artists, Dublin2020 and the people of the city.

LINGO festival co-founder Stephen James Smith is a Dublin poet and playwright central to the rise of the vibrant spoken word genre in Ireland today.

Wissame Cherfi is a French Algerian filmmaker living in Dublin city since 2009, whose short film ‘We Are Dublin’ won the St Patrick’s Special Prize at the 2013 ‘I Love My City’ showcase.

Aidan Kelly, who has worked with Channel 4 Films and U2, is a photographer known for his documentary work.

Derek Kennedy hosts ‘Dublin Daily’, a popular Instagram feed showing a particular angle on the look of the city.

The video captures the good and the bad of Dublin; the successes and the failures; the community and the divide; reflecting the ideas that came from the conversations and workshops Dublin2020 had with people all over the city in the past year.

Through this video, the Dublin2020 team has created a visual representation of what Dublin is today, a portrayal of the city’s grime and glory.
