IT was a case of last orders for a popular Northside barman who recently retired from a well-known local watering hole.

Owen Finn, from Donaghmede, worked at Connolly’s, The Sheds Pub, Clontarf, for almost 40 years. His customers were given the opportunity to bid him a fond farewell at a special night held in his honour.

The father-of-two, originally from Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, started working at The Sheds in 1976 on a month’s trial.

“I really enjoyed my time there and all the customers were good to me over the years,” said Owen.  “Every customer was the same to me and I treated them with respect. I had a brilliant night (at the leaving party).”

Owen experienced a lot of changes in the industry, especially since the introduction of the smoking ban.

“The ban changed everything,” he added. Owen, who had some health issues last year, said he hopes to do a bit of travelling in his retirement.
