Halloween safety warning issued

A NORTHSIDE TD has highlighted the importance of staying safe this Halloween.

The festival is a fun time of year for both young and old but often the night is overshadowed by dangerous incidents that occur because of illegal bonfires.

RENUA Ireland TD for Dublin Bay North, Terence Flanagan, said: “Reports regularly appear in the media the day after Halloween regarding horrific injuries that have been inflicted on people as a result of a bonfire running out of control or a faulty firework going off in someone’s hand.

“Dublin City Council and the gardaí are urging people again this year to report stockpiled material to the council’s Litter Hotline on 1800 248 248.

“The council aims to remove as much of the stockpiled bonfire material as possible, in advance of Halloween, in order to a avoid large-scale bonfires that could pose a danger to attendees and local residents.”

Deputy Flanagan added: “It is vitally important that people respect the emergency services and gardaí on the night as they undertake their duties, as the services are put under increased pressure during the Halloween period.”
