Fingal may benefit from new 30 million renewal scheme

THE new €30 million Village and Town Renewal Scheme announced last week by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny could have benefits for Fingal.

The initiative will be channelled through the Local Authorities with oversight provided by the Local Community Development Committees.

Projects eligible under this scheme will extend to the enhancement of villages, small towns and the surrounding countryside.

Projects such as greenways, cycleways, upgrading parks and civic areas, public utilities such as street lighting and renovation of relevant derelict buildings are just some of the possible projects which could qualify for this funding.

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Dr James Reilly said the scheme was a great initiative which could have “fantastic benefits for many areas in northern County Dublin”.

“The economic downturn had an awful effect on towns and villages in Dublin Fingal,” stated Minister Reilly.

“This scheme is a fantastic project and could make a real difference here.

“We need local stakeholders to come together and to decide which projects should be

selected to apply for this funding.”
