New Mercedes-Benz is set to arrive

MERCEDES-BENZ has expanded to five the choice of models in their compact car segment with the introduction of their new five-door CLA Shooting Brake.

When it arrives, the new CLA Shooting Brake will be priced to attract those who may not have considered estate car ownership previously with launch models expected to begin from

?¬31,490.

Styled as a coupé – but with all of the functional attributes one looks for in an estate car – its visual appeal echoes that of the larger CLS Shooting Brake.

Outside, the family appearance is evident. Viewed from the front, its long, domed bonnet and diamond radiator grille, with large inset star, combine to give it a sporty, crouching posture. From the side, its sleek frameless windows, sweeping body and sloping roofline direct the eye to the rear and its robust bumper with twin exhausts, wide opening tailgate and stylish lights cluster.

Inside, headroom is 4cm higher than in the normal four-door version. Load compartment capacity extends from 495 to 1,354 litres. Other interior features include a three-spoke steering wheel, 7-inch freestanding screen in high gloss piano finish, and an instrument panel with five round vents. In addition to the entry-level version, it will be available in two additional equipment lines – Urban and AMG.

Five Euro 6-compliant engines are available initially – two CDI diesel models and three petrol models. All are equipped with ECO start/stop function. Diesel versions consist of a (

?¬36,125) 4-cylinder, 2.2-litre, 136hp CLA200 CDI delivering 4.1-litres/100km fuel consumption, and Band A3 annual road tax of just

?¬190. Second diesel version is a (

?¬40,195) 4-cylinder, 2.2-litre, 177hp CLA220 CDI Automatic with 4.01-litres/100km consumption, and Band A3 annual road tax of

?¬190.

Petrol versions begin with a (

?¬31,490) 4-cylinder, 1.6-litre, 122hp CLA180 with 5.51-litres/100km consumption, and Band B1 annual road tax of

?¬270. Next comes a (

?¬35,235) 4-cylinder, 1.6-litre, 156hp CLA200 with 5.61-litres/100km consumption, and Band B1 road tax of

?¬270. Third is a (
