New ecar ambassadors take to the roads

Dublin People 19 Apr 2013

IN THE first six months of ESB ecars’ Great Electric Drive trial, the participating ecar Ambassadors have already covered a total of 50,000km on Irish roads by driving 100 per cent electric vehicles (EV).

And in the process they have recorded combined savings of approximately e5,800 and more than three tonnes of CO2 emissions.

The ecar Ambassadors were chosen following a public invitation to take part in a national electric vehicle trial and were drawn from over 12,000 applications. The Great Electric Drive offers 21 ambassadors the opportunity to trial an EV for up to one year.

The latest ambassadors have just received the keys to their electric vehicles for a three month trial and they are Paul Donnelly (Dublin), Julie Harper (Kildare), Eavan Brady (Louth), and Val Behan (Galway).

ESB ecars Manager, Dermot McArdle said:

“ESB is currently rolling out a nationwide EV charging infrastructure and we are delighted with the very real benefits and cost savings associated with electric driving as demonstrated by the ambassadors.

ESB ecars Great Electric Drive trial aims to promote the use of electric vehicles among the general public, as well as highlight the availability of ESB’s network of EV charge points, currently standing at around 1,200 public, commercial and domestic charge points.
