Dublin college drives raffle for Kenyan school
Dublin People 02 Mar 2013BLACKROCK College has taken delivery of a brand new Peugeot 208 from Gowan Motors Merrion as the prize in a raffle which aims to raise funds to build a new school in Kenya.

In attendance at the launch of the Machakos Car Raffle was rugby pundit and Peugeot Brand Ambassador, George Hook, alongside pupils and staff from Blackrock College and Gowan Motors Merrion representatives.
The past pupils and current students at Blackrock College were asked by the Kenyan Foundation of Spiritan priests in 2011 to help build a much needed new secondary school in Kenya.
The new Holy Ghost School Machakos will be located two hours south-east of Nairobi, in a region of significant deprivation and under-development. The area currently has no second-level education at all and for hundreds of children educational opportunities cease once they complete their primary years. The new school will open up a new world of education, knowledge and personal growth for these children.
Blackrock College has organised extensive range of events since 2011 which have generated over
?¬160,000 towards the Machakos project to date. The latest charity drive, the Machakos Car Raffle, which was launched on the 22nd February, aims to raise a further
?¬40,000.
At the launch Blackrock College’s Principal Alan Mac Ginty said:
“I thank our past and present pupils and the extended Blackrock family for their support for the Machakos School Project. I have no doubt that they will support this charity raffle organized in conjunction with Gowan Motors Merrion with their usual enthusiasm.
“I particularly wish to thank Gowan Motors Merrion for their support and encouragement. The Peugeot 208 is already the centre of attention and represents a wonderful prize for the winner.

?¬25 raffle ticket can also claim a discount off servicing for all makes and models, or
?¬250 towards the purchase of a new Peugeot vehicle exclusively through Gowan Motors Merrion.
The draw will take place in the College on May 19 and tickets can be purchased at the College Reception or Union Office.
