VW demonstrates its drive as sponsor of PGA Championship
Dublin People 24 Aug 2012VOLKSWAGEN Ireland has been unveiled as the main sponsor for the 2012 Irish Professional Golfers Association Southern Championship to be held at Powerscourt Golf Club, Enniskerry on August 27 and 28.

Previous winners of the Championship include Eamonn D’arcy in 2010 and the event famously had a tie when Padraig Harrington and Philip Walton couldn’t be separated.
This year’s competition will see some household names compete including the defending champion Mark O Sullivan (Ashbourne Golf Club), Eamonn Darcy, David Higgins (Waterville Golf Club), Damien Mooney and Francis Howley.
The event, which is being held at Powerscourt for the third year, is free to enter and promises to showcase some of the finest golf Ireland has to offer.
Powerscourt Golf Club is situated within the magnificent 1,000 acre Powerscourt Estate in the Garden of Ireland. The par 72 championship course has 18 of the best shaped putting surfaces in the country and has been built to USGA recommendations and measures just over 7,000 yards. Powerscourt tees, fairways, bunkers and sand greens are of exceptional quality.

Volkswagen are no newcomers to sponsoring golf having held several events for men, ladies and mixed over the years, but their involvement in the Southern Championship will be the springboard for further activity in 2013 and beyond.
