When it was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March
2008, the Delta was hailed as a milestone vehicle. It introduced the concept of
the luxury compact family car, offering high levels of refinement and interior
space in an affordable and elegant hatchback package.
In 2012 the Delta is once again pushing boundaries,
this time for the Chrysler brand in right-hand drive markets.
Style-wise, the Delta has been subtly revised with new
high-tech headlamps, LED daytime-running lights and a bold new Chrysler grille
to highlight the Delta’s new identity.
The Chrysler Delta is available with two-tone colour
schemes, including a matte black finish, to help set it apart from its
C-segment rivals.
In addition to class-leading passenger space, courtesy
of sliding and tilting rear seats, the entry-level Delta SE also boasts high
levels of equipment with 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, privacy glass,
steering wheel remote controls and four electric windows all as standard, while
safety features include ESP, six airbags and front fog lights with cornering
illumination.
The mid-level SR model adds dual-zone climate control,
a rear armrest, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Blue&Me
Bluetooth with voice recognition and plush leather/Alcantara upholstery, while
the range-topping Limited version is fitted with automatic headlamps, rear
parking sensors, power folding mirrors, dual chrome exhausts and 17-inch alloy
wheels.
The Limited version also brings new levels of upmarket
refinement to the class with Poltrona Frau Leather upholstery, a leather-clad
dashboard with hand-worked stitching, integrated satellite navigation and a
two-tone paint finishing with a gloss black roof, all as standard.
Under the bonnet, the Chrysler Delta again trumps its
rivals by offering a full range of high-performance, high-efficiency
turbo-charged engines. A single petrol engine is offered, a 140hp, 1.4-litre
MultiAir Turbo unit, while the diesel range is comprised of a 120hp, 1.6-litre
MultiJet unit (mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed semi-automatic
‘Selectronic’ gearbox) and the flagship 165hp 2.0-litre MultiJet unit.
All Chrysler Deltas fall into VRT Band B with the
exception of the 1.6 MultiJet
‘Selectronic’ which falls into VRT Band A.
The Chrysler Delta also boasts some of Fiat
Automobile’s latest chassis technology, including a next -generation stability
control system called the
‘Absolute Handling System’ which pre-empts a loss of
vehicle stability and uses the car’s power steering system to automatically
make discreet steering corrections when it senses a critical handling
situation.
Several torque management systems are also employed
including: traction control (ASR); engine torque management (MSR); torque
transfers control (TTC); and torque steer control (LFT). Chrysler’s new
‘Magic
Parking’ parallel-parking aid is offered as an option.
