Consultants from Tallaght University Hospital to give free health talks
Padraig Conlon 24 Sep 2024Medical Consultants and other healthcare experts from Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) are to give a series of free Health Talks for the public on a range of topics including sepsis, stroke, menopause and how patients can best prepare for surgery.
All these presentations will occur in the Conference Room at Tallaght County Library during October, coinciding with October Health Awareness Month in the Tallaght Community.
All of the talks are free to attend.
The first talk on Sepsis will happen on Wednesday, October 2nd at 2 pm featuring Infectious Diseases Consultant Dr. Ashwin Delmonte Sen and his colleague Dr. Kaitlyn O Brien.
This presentation will clearly explain what we all need to know about sepsis, including how to spot the signs of this infection which can cause tissue damage, organ failure and potentially death if not identified and treated promptly.
On Tuesday, October 8th at 6 pm Ms. Maria Whelan, General & Colorectal Consultant Surgeon and Siobhán Power, a Clinical Specialist Dietitian will give a talk on How Patients can best Prepare for Surgery.
This talk is aimed at helping patients to understand better how they can use the time ahead of their surgery to get their minds and bodies ready, which in turn makes their recovery easier.
On Thursday, October 10th at 2 pm Professor Rónán Collins, a Consultant in Geriatric & Stroke Medicine will give a free talk on How to Prevent Stroke.
This lecture will finish with an opportunity for the public to ask questions of Professor Collins.
The final talk in the series will take place on Wednesday, October 23rd at 6 pm.
Colleen Byrne an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Women’s Health and Eimear Lee Moloney, a Specialist Physiotherapist in Women’s Health will speak about How to live well during Menopause.
This talk is for anyone interested in the topic of Menopause, with the benefits and risks of HRT covered as well as the impact of menopause on your bones, heart, muscles and pelvic floor.

“All of those speaking are dedicated experts in their field and have a wealth of knowledge to share which could only improve the quality of our lives and help us to prevent illness.
“We are delighted to provide this important public service to our local community and are grateful to Tallaght County Library for once again hosting the events.”
This series of talks has been planned in partnership with the Fettercairn Community Health Project.
