Who are your sporting heroes?
Dublin People 18 May 2013
This week we’re asking our Facebook friends to tell us the name of their favourite Irish sporting hero and why.
Laura Cahill: I would have to say I don’t have one favourite sporting hero as I think anyone who represents their club, province or country is amazing. But I have to say that the backroom staff and coaches are the real heroes as they are the ones to get everything so the players, runners, sailors etc can compete. This is especially true for those involved in the Special Olympics or the Paralympics.

Mary Carroll: I would have to say Jack Charlton because in 1990 and 1994 Ireland was great.
Michelle Byrne: Mine is my daughter Moli (12). She’s not the best at everything but she always tries her best, gets up early every weekend for training in hail, rain or snow. She is never late and is always a team player.
Steve Gray: Loving all the recent ones – Katie Taylor, Shane Long, Tommy Bowe. They make you proud to be Irish.
Martin Duffy: Robbie Keane is a brilliant footballer and a great ambassador for our country.
Aisling Flynn: I think Brian O’Driscoll is one of the best Irish sporting heroes ever.
