Mixed birthday wishes for Dublin’s Spire

THE Spire on O’Connell Street has just celebrated its 10th birthday. Does it continue to divide Dublin opinion or have we finally come to terms with its presence? Here’s a selection of comments on the subject from followers of the Dublin People Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Dublinpeople)

Laura Tormey: At this stage it wouldn’t be the same without it.

Vikki Behan: It was a waste of money. Money should have been put into hospitals instead of stopping mobility allowance and taking from hospitals.

Terry Brophy: Apart from the silly light about half way up, which wasn’t part of the original design, I love it.

Dave O’Looney: I think it’s great. It brings people together to have a good moan about something.

Lisa Byrne: Ah, it’s nice. It puts us on the map. If they didn’t waste money on that it would have been on something else.

Kathy Malone: It’s a great place to meet up with friends and family cos everyone knows where the Spire is and you can see it from afar. It’s good for the teenagers as they use it to fix their hair and do their lippy.
