Girls set to have fun at charity event

Dublin People 16 Oct 2011

A
NORTHSIDE woman is holding a special charity night next month to raise funds
for St Michael’s House, Ballymun.

Aideen
McRory Cashill, from Portmarnock, is hosting

‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ in
Silks Restaurant, Malahide, on Monday, November 28.

Tickets
for this ladies only event cost

?¬50. The night will include a meal with a glass
of wine, a goody bag for everyone, disco, spot prizes, while a few other fun
events will take place throughout the evening. There will also be a separate
auction and raffle.

This is
Aideen’s second year to host the event – last year

?¬5,000 was raised for St
Michael’s House.

“The
reason for choosing this charity is because David, my three-year-old son, is
linked in with St Michael’s House,

? she told Northside People.

“David
has no diagnoses and is put under the umbrella

‘Global Developmental Delay’.

“He has
low muscle tone and is unable to sit or stand, he cannot feed orally and is fed
through a tube into his stomach.

“He also
has obstructive sleep apnoea and sleeps with a machine which helps him breathe
at night.

Aideen
said that despite all of his medical problems, David is a very happy little boy
and takes each day as it comes.

“He
brings a huge amount of fun and light into my life, my husband Dave’s and
David’s big sister Isobelle’s,

? she stated.

“Because
he has no diagnosis the world is his oyster. Every achievement David makes is a
big milestone and we have great celebrations in our house.

“However,
all these achievements are made much easier for David because of St Michael’s
House’s involvement with him.

Aideen
said St Michael’s House provides all they can for David in relation to early
intervention services.

This
includes physiotherapy, home schooling, speech and language therapy and
occupational therapy and helps David to lead as normal a life as possible at
home with his family around him.

“They
also provide training in communication courses for myself and Dave to
participate in which is a fantastic help to us as sometimes we don’t know what
to do next to help David in his development,

? explained Aideen.

“St
Michael’s House have secured a place for David in a special pre-school called
the YES Project based in Rivervalley Swords.

“David
was very excited about his first day. It was a day we didn’t think we would be
seeing for a very long time.

Aideen
said the aim of the

‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ night is to raise much needed
funds to help all children out there who face challenges similar to David.

“As this
is so close to my family’s hearts and with all the cutbacks that have been made
recently by the Government, I’m sure it’s close to many more families out
there,

? she added.

“It
would be great if people could donate towards the night in any way they could
because with every extra bit of help out there from people these services can
continue to be provided in the community.

“A great
night was had by all at last year’s event and we’re hoping that this one will
be even more successful.
