Dublin City Council Luke Kelly Festival takes place this Sunday August 13 from 12pm to 6pm in Dublin’s famous Smithfield Square.

This free festival promises to be a huge celebration of Dublin music legend Luke Kelly, through an engaging and entertaining mix of live music performances, interesting discussion sessions and family friendly arts & crafts.

Throughout the day, there’ll be live music on the main stage, with Damien Dempsey singing songs from Luke’s repertoire and former Dubliners member Sean Cannon with some old favourites from The Dubliner’s back catalogue.

Expect some surprise appearances on the day by a selection of well-known, extra special guest singers and musicians spanning several generations, performing a selection of Luke Kelly favourites.

Put together by artist MacDara Yeates and author Leagues O’Toole, in liaison with Paula McCann representing the Luke Kelly family, each aspect of the day has been included to give attendees a real insight into the life and loves of Luke Kelly, along with a taste of inner-city Dublin.

Over in the discussion tent, make sure you don’t miss out on the engaging conversations that will reflect different passions within Luke’s life, from those who knew him best.

Along with a host of familiar faces, UK folk music legend Martin Carthy will be on hand to discuss the UK folk scene in the early 60’s and hear all about Luke’s life and legacy from his biographer Des Geraghty

Families with children of all ages are sure to enjoy the selection of creative and interactive arts & crafts activities, as well as the opportunity to share Luke’s passion for all things football at an FAI hosted football activity happening throughout the day.
