Two Dublin men, Ed Guiney and Robbie Ryan, have secured Oscar nominations.

Producer Ed Guiney secured his 3rd Oscar nomination, with his film Poor Things securing a number of prestigious nominations such as Best Picture, Best Actress for Emma Stone, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Dublin man Robbie Ryan received his first nomination for his as cinematographer on the film.

Co-CEOs and founders of Element Pictures, producers Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe, said “we are thrilled with the news today, and with the ongoing success of Poor Things.”

“This is a phenomenal achievement for Yorgos, Emma and our incredible cast and crew of the film, including of course Irish cinematographer Robbie Ryan. It’s also a huge tribute to all of the Element Pictures team in Dublin, Belfast and London who have been across every detail of this production from its inception to its worldwide release.  We are also very grateful to amazing team at Film 4 and to our brilliant distributors Searchlight.”

There was disappointment on the acting front as Barry Keoghan failed to secure a nomination Best Actor in a Leading Role alongside but fellow Irish man Cillian Murphy, was nominated for his performance in Oppenheimer.

Fellow Dubliner Andrew Scott, despite early awards season buzz and a Golden Globe nod, also failed to make the cut for his role in the queer drama All Of Us Strangers.

Oppenheimer secured the most nominations, securing 13 nominations across a wide range of categories.

Poor Things followed close behind on 12 nominations.

Guiney was previously nominated for producing the 2015 Brie Larson drama Room and 2018 comedy The Favourite.

Poor Things saw Guiney reunite with The Favourite director Yorgos Lantihmos and star Emma Stone, with the pair nominated alongside him as producers of the film.

Guiney produced Lantihmos’ English language debut The Lobster, which was filmed around Dublin and starred Dublin 15 man Colin Farrell.

Last year, Dublin man Richard Baneham scooped an Oscar for his work on the blockbuster Avatar: The Way Of Water.

The Oscars will take place in Los Angeles on March 10th, with American talk show host Jimmy Kimmel returning as host.
