Whelan’s date for Robyn Hitchcock

ACCLAIMED singer/songwriter Robyn Hitchcock makes a highly anticipated return to Dublin this month with a show in Whelan’s on Tuesday, January 28.

Hitchcock has been on the music scene since founding art-rock band The Soft Boys in 1976 and has gone on to record more than 20 albums since. Solo career highlights include the brilliant ‘Eye’ and ‘I Often Dream of Trains’.

He was also the subject of a live concert film, ‘Storefront Hitchcock’, directed by the legendary Jonathan Demme (‘Stop Making Sense’, ‘Philadelphia’). Many of Hitchcock’s songs are infused with poetic, surreal lyrics and he is considered by his peers to be a modern incarnation of Bob Dylan (one of his greatest influences).

Blending folk and psychedelia with a wry British nihilism, Robyn Hitchcock describes his songs as “paintings you can listen to”. His most recent self-titled album  marks his 21st release as a solo artist and is produced by Brendan Benson (The Raconteurs).

Robyn Hitchcock will be supported in Whelan’s by US-based Irish artist, Stefan Murphy. Tickets are €15 and available from www.selectivememory.ie
