Here is Chengdu

Discover more about the City of Chengdu in China and its intangible cultural heritage at the CHQ in Dublin’s Docklands on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday January 19.

From classical Chinese dances to puppet shows and acrobatic performances, this two-day fun and cultural family event is a great appetiser for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.

Beauty and the Beast

So panto season is over – oh no it’s not! There’s a final chance to see Beauty and the Beast at Axis Ballymun over the coming days. 

Follow the adventures of Beauty Bountiful and the mysterious Beast, whose spell cast upon him by the evil witch Desirée can only be lifted by true love. 

Beauty’s father Benjamin and his friend Dame Stuffy come to their rescue. The final shows are on Thursday and Friday, January 16 & 17 at 7.30pm and Saturday and Sunday (January 18/19) at 2.30pm. Tickets €10 (€7 Thursday) from www.axisballymun.ie.

Life above Everything

Life above Everything is a major exhibition that brings together the work of two acknowledged masters, Lucian Freud and Jack B Yeats. Exploring the affinities and interconnections between these two artists, it draws the work of these two stubbornly individual painters into dialogue, placing them side-by-side for the first time in 70 years. The exhibition finishes up this week at IMMA, Royal Hospital Kilmainham.

Ice Skating Blanchardstown

Get your skates on for a final round of icy fun at Ice Skating Blanchardstown, next to the Blanchardstown Centre. With a large main rink, a separate smaller rink and a variety of events it’s a great family day out and this weekend is the final skates of the season. See www.iceskating.ie.

24 Hour Plays: Dublin

The 24 Hour Plays: Dublin is back for one night only at the Abbey Theatre on Sunday, January 19 at 7.30pm. 

Within 24 hours, six short plays will be written, rehearsed and performed by the best of Irish writing and directing talent and over 25 of Ireland’s most recognised and beloved stars of stage and screen.

Charlie Le Brun

Breton Flute player, composer and arranger, Charlie Le Brun, will be launching his debut album called 'Madness is Convention' at The Cobblestone in Smithfield on Saturday, January 18 at 8pm. The evening of traditional Irish and Breton Music will be presented by John Kelly (fiddle).

Creative Waste Workshop

The Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun is hosting an arts & crafts workshop for kids, where they can make a variety of creative crafts by reusing waste materials, such as fabric, cardboard, plastic and sweet wrappers.

Marlae at The Helix

Dublin born artist Marlae will be performing an evening of blended Electro-Pop and RnB sounds to fill your soul at The Helix on Friday, January 17 at 7.30pm. The Dubliner writes, sings and produces her own music and released her Spaces EP in March 2019. Tickets cost €10 from www.thehelix.ie.
