Open House

Ireland’s tallest building, the new Museum of Literature, a bus tour of Dublin port and a walking tour on the socio-cultural history of Dalymount Park are just some of the highlights of this year’s Open House Dublin festival.

It runs from October 11-13 and will focus on the theme of City in Motion. Over 120 buildings across the city will throw open their doors to the public for the festival weekend, with 160 events – ranging from building tours to family-friendly workshops – taking place.

Concert in the Dark

Moya Brennan, along with some well known names from the world of music and theatre, will present Concert in the Dark in the iconic surroundings of Christchurch Cathedral in support of the work of CBM Ireland (Christian Blind Mission) on Friday, October 11 to mark World Sight Day.

The concert commences in the main Cathedral at 7.45pm and will end around 10.30pm. For more information and tickets go to www.concertinthedark.ie.

Dublin 8 Craft Market

The Dublin 8 Autumn Craft Market is a two-day pop-up event above the bright and cosy studio of The Constant Knitter in the heart of Dublin’s Antique Quarter.

Featuring handmades by a collective of indie artisans and craft makers, it’s taking place this weekend on October 12-13 upstairs at the Constant Knitter 88 Francis Street, Dublin 8.

Back To Mine

Back to the Future poster artist Mark O’Neill returns to Dublin a decade after his last sold-out show.

A recipient of the Adams Artist of the Future award at the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1991, Lancashire-born O’Neill has established himself as one of the most sought-after artists in the country.

His exhibition Back To Mine is being hosted at Gallery Zozimus until October 31, and takes two meanings with O’Neill reflecting scenes of home while embracing his roots.

An evening of poetry

An evening of poetry, music and conversation exploring the power of poetry to provide solace and insight into the experience of serious illness and loss will be hosted by author and former TD Liz McManus on October 12. 

All funds raised will go to Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services – Blackrock Hospice. Tickets (€20) are available from www.eventbrite.ie.

Nicolò Spera ten-string guitar 

Italian guitarist Nicolò Spera brings to his teaching and performing a unique synthesis of European and American traditions. Nicolò is one of the few guitarists in the world to perform on both six-string and ten-string guitars, as well as on theorbo.

He performs on Sunday, October 13 as part of the sundays@noon concert series at the Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane.

Wanted One Body!

PS Productions presents the comedy murder mystery ‘Wanted One Body!’ at the Sean O’Casey Theatre, East Wall from Monday to Friday, October 14-18, at 8pm.

I do not like thee Dr Fell 

St Andrew’s Players/Stage2theatrecompany, will stage Bernard Farrell’s ‘I do not like thee Dr Fell’ on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 9, 10, 11 and 12 at St Sylvester’s GAA Club, Church Road, Malahide. 

The talented cast for the show, which is directed by Jean Goslin, includes Mary Gamble, Cara Ferguson, Martin Brennan, Desmond Daly, Irina Pilos, Stephen Rixon and Brian Ahern.

Legends of Irish Rock

Gibney’s Pub in Malahide is looking forward to entertaining locals and visitors with a series of shows in October and November called the ‘Legends of Irish Rock Series. 

First shows up are on Thursday, October 10 – A Taste of Rory (Rory Gallagher and Taste Tribute – tickets €15) and Wednesday, October 16 – Christy Dignam and Joe Jewell plus support from Jodi Phillis (tickets €25).
