Dublin Arabic Film Festival

THE sixth annual Dublin Arabic Film Festival (DAFF) curated by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Jim Sheridan and Festival Director Zahara Moufid, opens on Friday, October 4 at the Irish Film Institute (IFI) in Dublin’s Temple Bar. 

The festival, which runs until Sunday, October 6, has been developed in partnership with the Irish Film Institute (IFI) and is presented by Dubai Duty Free.

Award-winning actor Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones, Hunger, The Wind That Shakes the Barley) will be the event’s inaugural festival patron.

I do not like thee Dr Fell 

St Andrew’s Players/Stage2theatrecompany, will stage Bernard Farrell’s ‘I do not like thee Dr Fell’ on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 9, 10, 11 and 12 at St Sylvester’s GAA Club, Church Road, Malahide. 

The talented cast for the show, which is directed by Jean Goslin, includes Mary Gamble, Cara Ferguson, Martin Brennan, Desmond Daly, Irina Pilos, Stephen Rixon and Brian Ahern.

Fundraising Quiz Night for MS 

The MS North Dublin Branch of Multiple Sclerosis Ireland is holding a table quiz/annual fundraiser on Thursday, October 3 at 8pm in Whitehall Colmcille GAA Club, Collins Avenue. 

A table of four will cost €40. Great prizes and a great raffle are promised and all for a great cause!

Echoes

The line-up for Echoes, which will take place in Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre from the from October 4 to 6, has been announced. Echoes celebrates the life and work of Maeve Binchy and Irish writers with a series of thought-provoking talks, walks, debates, interviews and theatrical events. The theme of this year’s event is the concept of community in contemporary writing in Ireland and a fantastic line-up of guest speakers including Olivia O’Leary, Cathy Kelly, Jo Spain, Christine Dwyer Hickey, Mary Pat Kelly, Hazel Gaynor, Fionn Davenport, Andrea Carter, Roisin Ingle, Clelia Murphy and Deirdre O’Kane and others will take part. Open Art Studio

On the second Tuesday and Saturday of the month an Open Art Studio for kids of all ages is available in the Project Room, dlr LexIcon Library, Dún Laoghaire. If your child likes to paint, make, draw, fold or sculpt then this is not to be missed. Artists will be on hand to help as little or as much as you would like. Materials and space are free. No booking require, just drop in. The next Kids Art Studio is on October 8 from 11sm to 1pm.

The Fureys 

Legends of Irish music and song, the Fureys will be at the Mill Theatre on Friday, October 4 at 8pm.

The Fureys are responsible for some of the most stirring music ever to capture the public imagination. Their folk based music has received standing ovations in some of the biggest concert halls of the world and they credit their musical ability to their parents, Ted and Nora, who were well known musicians themselves. They encouraged their sons to play music from a very early age and there was live traditional music in their house almost nightly.

Their emotive songs stir many emotions….tears and laughter, sadness and joy.

Red Line Book Festival

Red Line Book Festival returns from October 7-13 in venues across South County Dublin with a special line-up of events delving into marvellous but sometimes murky sphere of the world wide web.

The festival provides a programme of events and workshops that appeals to people of all ages and interests, from children to adults, casual readers to bookworms.

The Sleepwalkers

During an unknown natural catastrophe, seventeen members of Dublin Youth Theatre (DYT) find themselves trapped in an abandoned building. Every time they try to leave and go outside, they fall asleep and wake up back where they started, rehearsing the same scene from Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. Think classic horror movie plots, teenage angst, and the natural wisdom of the young, all given a voice that you can’t help listening to.

It’s happening at Axis Ballymun as part of Dublin Theatre Festival from October 2-5 at 8pm with a matinée at 3pm on October 5.  

Dublin International Short Film and Music Festival

DISFMF is an independent festival dedicated to bring together film makers and musicians from around the world in a forum to celebrate short films and music.

The goal of the festival is to show variety of all genres, drama, comedies, animations, documentaries, music videos, narrative stories and horror.
