All Ireland finals

After the dramatic draw on September 1, the Dubs and Kerry have to do it all again this Saturday (September 14). Tickets are like hens’ teeth but there’s nothing to stop you inviting a gang around or dropping into your local to cheer on the boys in blue. However, you should be able to pick up a ticket for the other All Ireland final on Sunday, September 15, when the girls in blue take on Galway.

Walk While You Can 5K

When the remarkable Fr Tony Coote did his extraordinary walk last year from Donegal to Cork – some 550 kilometres – he raised over €600,000! The proceeds were split between the IMNDA and Research Motor Neurone.

This Saturday the Walk While You Can 5K is being held in Fr Tony’s memory as he sadly passed away on August 28. However, his wonderful legacy of action and inspiration will continue to live on and Walk While You Can continues to raise urgently needed funds for people living with MND.

The 5k route starting point is at the soccer pitches on Acres Road in the Phoenix Park (near the papal cross car park). Visit www.imnda.ie for more details.

Selfbuild Live

Selfbuild Live Dublin is the ultimate showcase for anybody building, extending, improving or simply decorating their home. Visitors are presented with an abundance of ideas, inspiration and advice via 1-2-1 clinics, theatre talks and hundreds of Irish based exhibitors.

It’s taking place in Citywest Hotel from September 13-15, open 10am-6pm on all three days.

An evocative, experimental new play about memory, secrets and sacrifice from the team behind last year’s smash hit, If We Got Some More Cocaine, I Could Show You How I Love You (Cocaine), ‘sink’ a new play by John O’Donovan is at the Smock Alley Theatre until Sunday, September 15. Lucid Dreams

Painter Maren Palm will showcase a new collection of her vibrant abstract paintings in her debut solo exhibition at The Gallery@Framexperts in Ranelagh in September.

Maren's practice embraces her love of colour, using paint and gold and silver leaf to create eye-catching mixed media abstract works. The exhibition runs until Friday, September 20.

Lad

Steve is fine. No really, he’s grand. He’s a lad. He’s always been a lad – one of the lads. But now his friends have cowed to the latest fad — feminism — and Steve feels like an endangered species. The last of his kind. With nobody to talk to. But there’s one lad left. His lad. And his lad… talks back. It runs in The New Theatre, Temple Bar until Saturday, September 21 at 8.30pm nightly.

Bodies of Water

Ira Dean disappeared at sea in 2009 while making her final artwork. She vanished completely. But was it an accident? A tragedy? A hoax? Bodies of Water is an exhibition of an artist you’ve never heard of.

Premiering as part of Dublin Fringe Festival, it’s playing at The Chocolate Factory (26 Kings Inn Street, Dublin 1) for a very limited six-performance run (September 7-12). Tickets from €13 are available at Fringefest.com

Estuary exhibition

A major exhibition celebrating the 25th anniversary of Fingal County Council’s diverse, engaging and captivating Municipal Art Collection will be officially opened on September 12.

Organised by the Fingal Arts Office, ‘Estuary’ will be launched be launched at the Draíocht Arts Centre in Blanchardstown with special guest poet, writer and lecturer, Theo Dorgan. The exhibition will then continue until November 17.

Compostela at The New Theatre

It’s June 2018. A post-Repeal world. Dawn no longer has to walk for miles knocking on doors, she just has to walk to Santiago. No one said it was easy but neither did anyone say that your toes might explode, which would’ve been nice to know.

Written and performed by Miriam Needham and directed by Donal O'Kelly, ‘Compostela’ is a darkly funny solo show that takes place at The New Theatre (43 Essex Street East, Temple Bar) from September 10-14 at 8.30pm (+ Matinees at 1pm on September 13 and at 3.30pm on September 14).
