Movies on the Lawn

Movies on the Lawn is back at Malahide Castle for one more brilliant day out this summer on Saturday, August 24.

You can pack a picnic and bring your own snacks to enjoy, or pick up some tasty treats from food vendors on site. The evening movie at 7.30pm is Mamma Mia! Over ten years old but still one of the best feel-good romantic musicals out there, Mamma Mia! is two hours of toe-tapping, finger-snapping fun! Featuring the best ABBA hits (Dancing Queen, Super Trooper, Does Your Mother Know, The Winner Takes It All…..), so dust off your flares and your sequined top and get ready for an evening of pure entertainment.

Family Fun Day

The Churchtown Roadrunners AC are hosting a family fun day on Sunday, August 25 starting at 2pm in the GAA Grounds. This is a fundraiser for a community based defibrillator in the village. 

There will be fun for all the family with the highlight being the introduction of ‘Churchtown's Fittest Family’. Also on the day, there will be bouncy castles, farmers’ market, face painting, raffle and refreshments served.

Summer Sounds

The newly refurbished Victorian bandstand on Bray Seafront is playing host to a series of free concerts that feature big band performances from the Dublin Airport Police & Fire Service Band, Bray Concert Band, Lourdes Brass Band and plenty more. This Sunday, August 25, visitors can enjoy music from the Blanchardstown Brass Band from 2.30pm.

Morton Games in Santry  

This year’s Morton Games International Track and Field event will take place in Santry on Wednesday, August 21.

There will be a packed programme, including the famed Morton Mile, for athletics fans to enjoy with some of the world’s top athletes descending on the Northside venue.

Admission to the games is €10 with under 16s going free, representing extraordinary value to see these stars in action.

Leo Halpin Walk in Oldtown

The Leo Halpin & Supporters’ Great Cappagh Walk will take place at 4pm on Sunday, August 25 at Oldtown in north county Dublin.

A firm fixture on the events calendar of the hospital’s fundraising arm – Cappagh Hospital Foundation – the day promises fun and entertainment for young and old alike, including free children’s face painting and entertainment from 1pm, large local farmers’ market, home baked bread and cakes. The walk begins at 3pm and will be followed by a BBQ.

There will be a monster raffle and fantastic prizes. The top prize is two tickets to the All-Ireland final, sponsored by Supervalu. For more information contact Leo Halpin on 087-2435040.

LOVESONG at the Civic Theatre

Red ‘n’ Blue Theatre Company presents Abi Morgan’s ‘LOVESONG’ at the Civic Theatre, Tallaght, on August 29 and 30 (8pm).

‘LOVESONG’ is the story of one couple told from two different points in their lives. We meet them as young lovers in their 20s, full of hope and expectation as they begin their married life, and as worldly companions looking back on their relationship.

Jenny Fennessy, Dylan Kennedy, Sean Ahern and Mary Flavin Colbert (pictured right) will perform ‘LOVESONG’.

Food Festival Fun in Dalkey

The annual Dalkey Lobster Festival returns to the historic, south Dublin coastal town from August 22 to 25. 

Once again supported by FLAG (Fisheries Local Action Group) North East, the festival will combine culinary delights with entertainment and artisan exhibits. 

A host of well-known faces will appear on the main stage including Pat Kenny, Bobby Kerr, Louis Copeland and Lorraine Keane, who will be there on behalf of Make-A-Wish, charity beneficiaries this year.

Women’s Stories of WWII 

‘The Woman is Present: Women’s Stories of WWII’ is a creative reimagining of moments from the lives of women during WWII recalling stories of bravery, sacrifice and love amidst the horror of war, as women stood up against fascism and totalitarianism and refused to accept oppression. Each performance is followed by a post-show discussion with the artists and invited guest speakers to explore powerful women’s stories in history and themes of gender equality and peace in Ireland, Northern Ireland and internationally. It is on in Rathfarnham Castle on Thursday, August 22 at 7.30pm.

London African Gospel Choir

The London African Gospel Choir have announced their first ever Dublin performance of Paul Simon’s classic, ‘Graceland’, at the National Concert Hall on August 27, which will be performed by 16 members of the choir.
