Miss Burlesque Ireland 

This Saturday, July 27 at Liberty Hall, Eden Quay, entertainers will take to the stage to compete in the 2019 Miss Burlesque Ireland competition.

The competition has three rounds, a Red Carpet Parade where the contestants show off their performance personalities through their extravagant costumes; the Traditional round which celebrates the roots of burlesque from the 1880s to the early 1960s; and finally the Unique round in which the performers can choose any style and incorporate props and tricks to make their performances truly spectacular.

Superhero Summer in Dublin

DublinTown’s Summer in Dublin campaign will see Henry Street and the newly pedestrianized Suffolk Street animated with a range of superhero-themed, free, family entertainment between 1pm and 5pm each Saturday during the summer.

Families can enjoy activities such as face painting, music, superhero characters, balloons, giant games and a novelty photobooth – all for free.

The next events take place on Henry Street on July 27 and on Suffolk Street on August 3.

Fossett’s at Tayto Park

Tayto Park has once again teamed up with Fossetts to present an impressive new show of spectacular circus entertainment. 

Located in Ashbourne, visitors to The Show by Fossett’s at Tayto Park will step into a magical world and experience a variety of incredible and daring acts including jugglers, wire walkers, aerial acrobats and comedy. 

Mrs Brown’s Star, Richie Hayes, will take centre stage at the 30 metre Circus Big Top as Ringmaster. 

Admission to the show is included with the purchase of a Tayto Park wristband and there’s 40-minute performances each day at 1.30pm, 3pm and 4.30pm.

Hotter Than July

This a free, family-friendly world music festival taking place in Smithfield Square, celebrating the cultural diversity of Dublin city through music and dance from around the world.

Visitors can enjoy a musical kaleidoscope of feel-good rhythms and grooving melodies, with food traders and fun interactive workshops adding to this perfect day out celebrating ‘summer in the city'.

Hotter Than July opens with a bang at 3pm, as Maracatu Ilha Brilhate get the party started with their procession of traditional Brazilian ‘Maracatu' drumming, and the festival wraps up at 9pm.

Festival of Running

The Irish Life Health Festival of Running will take place in Santry Park on Sunday, July 28. 

Organised by Athletics Ireland, the festival will include a One Mile Fun Run (11.45am) for children and a 3km Run (12.15pm) in Santry Park with all races finishing on the home straight of the Morton Stadium track before the start of the Irish Life Health national track and field championships.

Irish Youth Wind Ensemble

Over 70 of Ireland’s finest young wind, brass and percussion players have been selected to play in this year’s Irish Youth Wind Ensemble as they bring their national tour to the O’Reilly Theatre, Belvedere College, Dublin on Saturday, July 27 (6.30pm).

Bauhaus 100: The Print Portfolios

For the first time in its history, the National Gallery of Ireland displays a collection of print portfolios produced by artists associated with the Bauhaus.

Celebrating the centenary of the pioneering school, Bauhaus 100: The Print Portfolios runs until December 1. The set of four important Bauhaus portfolios are on loan from Germany’s renowned Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. They reveal an impressive range of approaches and print techniques, created by the wealth of visionary artists associated with the Bauhaus.

Over 50 prints by 45 influential artists feature, with work by Paul Klee, Max Beckmann, Wassily Kandinsky, Marc Chagall, Lyonel Feininger, Giorgio de Chirico and Natalia Goncharova

Galvanise

Galvanise is a new body of work by artist James L Hayes, the work presented in both galleries at MART in Rathmines aims to re-establish and re-introduce the concerns of modernist sculptural language.

Hayes explores aspects of the casting process as a means to interrogate the boundaries between artist and artisan, the ‘ready-made’ and the ‘art object’, whilst also referencing industrial art production and commodification. 

References to important creative influences, such as Welsh artist Barry Flanagan and US based art historian and critic Rosalind Krauss are central to the exhibition.
