MUSIC: A stomping night ahead for Bulmer’s live at Leopardstown

Dublin People 12 Jul 2019
Stomptown Brass has emerged as one of the most unique acts in Ireland.

STOMPTOWN Brass headline the Bulmer’s carnival night as part of the Bulmer’s live at Leopardstown series on Thursday, July 18

Stomptown Brass has emerged as one of the most unique acts in Ireland, performing their blend of funk and blues with a raucous cacophony of powerful driving rhythms.

Making the most of their impressive line-up of two drummers, two trombones, two trumpets, one saxophone and one big dirty tuba, Stomptown Brass are an original, supercharged, energy driven band, taking the brass tradition and completely turning it on its head.

During the evening the New Orleans inspired event will also see Stomptown Brass play 'flash mob' style in between races.

They will perform alongside Rio carnival characters walking amongst the crowds and street theatre performances featuring Horrid Helga’s Victorian Circus.

1. Most memorable moment in Dublin?

That time Ireland kept winning in rugby.

2. Favourite place to visit in Dublin?

The Ilac Centre during the sales. There's no atmosphere like it.

3. When not performing, what else do you do?

I think we all go to a lot of other gigs, particularly if our drummer Brenny is playing with another band – we like to go and cheer him on.

4. First album you bought and last album you bought?

My first album was ‘Scooter – The Stadium Techno Experience’. I'll leave it to one of the vinyl fellas to answer the last one, I can't remember the last time I bought a CD.

5. Who are your influences?

When we were starting out, it was the touring brass bands that you would see in Ireland – the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, the Hot 8 Brass Band etc. Now it's probably a strange mix of jazz, Ethio-jazz and techno.

6. Alongside yourself, who would make up your ideal band (dead or alive)?

Jerry Fish, Radie Peat and saxophone player Oisin Murtagh – we would make a mean LCD Soundsystem tribute band.

7. What three things are on your rider?

Cans, Buckfast, hot water bottles.

8. Any tips on life?

Live long, live on the edge, put it all on Instagram, and stop thinking about death!
