Should I stay or should I go?
Dublin People 22 Jun 2019
THE summer is here and most Irish people will be itching to take their holidays. The question is, who will go abroad this year and who will take a ‘stay-cation’?
Tommy Hickey went to St Stephen’s Green to ask: ‘Will you stay or will you go?’
Jodie Duff, from Laois, is avoiding the dreaded FOMO of not going to one of the biggest parties of the year by getting out of the country.
“I’m going to Budapest, I have to get away,” said Jodie. “I missed out on an Electric Picnic ticket so I booked myself flights for the same week. I don’t know much about the city, but the bath parties look like good craic.”
For Dubliner Mary Maher she has no problem makig the most of what our own country has to offer.
“My friends aren’t up for travelling so I’ll stay in Ireland this summer.” explained Mary.
“I’ll go down to Dungarvan for a bit of a holiday, though. The scenery in the south east is gorgeous. I’ll spend most of my time hillwalking.”
For Donegal native Noreen Goulding, you can’t beat a holiday in France.
“I know its more expensive than Spain or Portugal but I love French culture,” she explained.
“I usually go to the Chamane region or the Alps. The skilifts are great; I love reaching the peak of a mountain without making any effort!”
However, Noreen also enjoys a good Irish holiday as well.
“I’m from a village called Downings, just 20km north of Letterkenny,” she revealed.
“Everything around there is so picturesque. I also love going to Galway for a holiday; everything is within walking distance. The bus tours of Connemara or the Cliffs of Moher are great as well.”
Leon Bird (pictured far left) is heading off to a couple fof the great Europen cities on what sounds like a wonderful trip.
“I’m going to Berlin and Edinburgh to perform a play so that’s pretty exciting,” the Bray native declared.
“I’d like to get away more, but I’ll be staying at home for most of summer. I like it here all the same. I think Bray beach is so idyllic.”
Tim Butler, from Dundrum, is going even further afield on a journey that promises to be just a little bit adventurous.
Tim is foregoing the usual sunshine hot spots of Europe to venture into Asia.
Tim, who will be travelling all the way to Cambodia this summer, says he is looking forward to the adventure.
“I’ll stay mostly in the capital, Phnom Penh,” he revealed. “From there I’ll go and see the ancient Hindu temples, namely Angkor Wat. It’s a beautiful country that hasn’t been spoiled yet by tourism, so I’m looking forward to it.”
Dalkey man Thomas O’Donoghue can’t understand why people spend money to go abroad every summer.
“Maybe its climate change or whatever, but we’ve been getting great summers at home these last few years. I honestly think there’s no more beautiful place in the world than Wexford in the sun. Winter is the time to fly!”
