Simon Home Run

The 2019 Simon Home Run takes place in Phoenix Park on Saturday, March 9, to raise money to provide homes.

Participants can run, jog or walk the five mile (8km) route around the beautiful surroundings of the park.

There will be kids’ activities on the day with food and entertainment for all the family to enjoy. It’s an enjoyable morning out for an important cause. Register at www.dubsimon.ie and meet at the Papal Cross at 10.30am.

From POP Art to Pencil

Renowned artist Orla Walsh had been working on a stunning new series of pencil drawings entitled ‘From POP Art to Pencil: 50 Shades of Grey’ for a solo exhibition to take place late last year when sadly her husband suffered catastrophic injuries as the result of a bike accident.

Undeterred, Orla completed this beautiful and intricate body of work and is now currently displaying these pencil drawings until March 29 in The Design Loft, Powerscourt and she will also be doing a meet and greet on March 9 from 12pm where she will be doing some live sketching in store.

Jekyll and Hyde

Dun Laoghaire Musical and Dramatic Society (DMDS) will be presenting Jekyll and Hyde, the musical phenomenon based on the classic story by Robert Louis Stevenson, in the Pavilion Theatre from March 12 to 16. DMDS have assembled a hugely talented cast and a wonderful production team including Paul Laycock, Director, Des Cox, Musical Director and Denise Donohoe, Choreographer.

Women’s Day

DLR Chamber has organised a lunchtime seminar for Friday, March 8 to mark International Women’s Day, with WIBA (Women in Business Alliance) which is part of DLR Chamber.  The event will take place in the Talbot Hotel, Stillorgan. Journalist and broadcaster Barbara Scully is the MC for the ‘It’s Your World – Own it’ event that runs from 12 noon to 3pm including lunch. Cost is €50pp. See www.dlrchamber.ie

The Harvest

‘The Harvest’ takes place at The New Theatre, 43 Essex Street East, Temple Bar, Dublin, from March 5-16 at 7.30pm (+ Saturday Matinee at 2.30pm on March 9). 

‘The Harvest’ is a tense thriller from acclaimed playwright, Jane McCarthy, about second chances and second lives, what we do when we have them, and what we might do to take them from others.

Science Hack Day

Science Hack Day is an all-day-all-night event that brings scientists, engineers, computer scientists, designers together to find solutions (hacks) to real-life problems and questions during a brief but intense period of collaboration (36 hours).

It’s free, community run and everyone is welcome to come along. There are only two rules, you have to be over 18 and don’t be on fire!

It’s taking place from 10am on Saturday, March 9, to 4pm on March 10 at Tog Hackerspace, 22 Blackpitts, Dublin 8.

Seachtain Na Gaeilge

A wide and varied programme of events is taking place across Dublin as part of Seachtain Na Gaeilge Le Energia, which runs from March 1-17. This year festival’s theme is ‘Language without Limits’ – fitting for this international celebration of the Irish language.

State Of Mind

A great night of music is happening at the State of Mind event downstairs at Fibber Magees on Thursday, March 7.

State of Mind was set up to promote and celebrate local Irish talent and bring back the social aspect to Irish nightlife.

Performers on the night include Mistrix (Equilibrium Events), Jamie Ponisi (Equilibrium Events), Sean Meehan, DIT DJ Society and special guest, Josh Coakley.

Expect inflatables, confetti cannons and much more on the night! Tickets for this over 18s event are on sale now via Eventbrite. All proceeds on the night will be given to Jigsaw, the young people’s mental health charity.

Craft Fair in Sutton 

The Genuine Craft Fair is holding a craft fair on Sunday, March 10 at the Marine Hotel Sutton from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free.

The fair will have a wide variety of unique arts and crafts, jewellery, patchwork, sculpture, knitting, crochet, cross stich, painting, stain glass, painted glass, face and body products and wood working.
