House of Flying Daggers

There’s a free screening of House of Flying Daggers at 2pm on Saturday, February 16 in The Chester Beatty, Dublin Castle as part of the Dublin Chinese New Year Festival.

Beautifully choreographed, House of Flying Daggers tells the tale of a rebel force that steals from the rich and gives to the poor. But love blossoms during the plot to infiltrate this secret organisation.

Lightning Comedy 

Gilna Promotions presents Lightning Comedy on Saturday, February 16 at the Lord Mayors in Swords.

Some new and well-known faces on the Irish comedy scene will be appearing including Margaret McHugh, Níall Feiritéar, Conor Carey, Emily Ashmore, David Hynes, John Kelly and Stephen Harmon, along with MC and playwright David Gilna.

Have You Seen This Girl?

A co-production between Blacklight Productions and Purple Hare Theatre Company, ‘Have You Seen This Girl?’ a psychological thriller, takes place at the Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin, on February 15 and 16 at 9.30pm. 

This is the case of Ellie. In the wake of a string of young women who have suddenly disappeared, Ellie’s parents have reported her missing. Friends, family, strangers reading about her on their commute – they all want her back. 

Their community has suffered too many losses to leave one more unsolved. But with no shred of evidence, are the authorities up against the perfect crime?’

Old Dublin Society 

Brian McCabe will open the Spring Programme of the Society at 6pm on Wednesday, February 13 in the Conference Room of Dublin City Library & Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin 2, with his lecture ‘Dublin to Kilcullen: Ireland’s First Toll Road’. All welcome – admission free.

Irish Chamber Orchestra

The Irish Chamber Orchestra oozes virtuosity with its team of extraordinary musicians, providing electrifying performances at home and abroad.  Its February offering in Dublin on February 13 features a roller coaster of kaleidoscopic sounds that traverse time.

Beethoven’s final work, his Gross Fuge is the legacy of the master, who having blazed a musical trail knew when to rest his pen and make way for generations to come.  His Gross Fugue speaks so convincingly, transporting the listener to his world and is as fresh today as it was 300 years ago!

Victorian Gardens

The Victorian period saw a series of significant developments in the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin. During the years of the Great Famine, the initial phase of the iconic wrought iron Curvilinear Range of glasshouses was completed. At this time, Curator David Moore was examining the cause of the blight while also becoming the first to successfully grow orchids from seed to flowering stage. You can find out more on a guided tour on any Saturday during February. Tours start at 2.30pm and cost €5 per person. Meet at the Education & Visitor Centre.

Mid-Term Tales 

The first mid-term break of 2019 is coming up soon and Glasnevin Museum has a great tour designed to both educate and entertain children and adults alike.

The tours include tales of graverobbing, yew trees that can poison, vaults and crypts and strange characters from Dublin’s past along with much more! Next tours take place on Saturday and Sunday, February 16 & 17 at 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

Ireland Angling Expo

This popular all-Ireland Angling Show is being held at the National Show Centre, Swords, Co Dublin this weekend (February 16 & 17).

Exhibitors will be displaying their products, such as, rods, reels, lines, lures, flys, traces, artificial bait, clothing, magazines, charter boats excursions, kayaks, boats and a variety of accessories. All the latest gadgets and new products will be on display and experts will demonstrate a selection over the two days from 10am-5pm.

Parkrun

All walkers and runners are welcome to take part in parkruns every Saturday at 9.30am at a number of local venues including Tolka Valley, Poppintree Park, St Anne’s Park, Fairview Park, Darndale Park, Father Collins Park, Newbridge Demesne and Ardgillan Demesne. 

Parkrun is a timed 5k walk/run which is a completely free to participate community-based, volunteer-led initiative, and a great way to meet people and keep fit.  Junior Parkruns for four to 14-year-olds take place on Sundays at a number of venues over a 2km distance.
