‘Disconnected’ takes place at The New Theatre (43 East Essex Street, Temple Bar) from January 21 to February 2 (7.30pm).  

It’s the biggest party of the year. Emma and Clementine are prepped to impress, it’s all they have been waiting for. But Cassie is acting weird. She has a secret. It’s not pretty. Only pretty fits in Emma’s world. When appearance is no longer enough she dares to dig a little deeper and with it, risks everything.

Showtime in Baldoyle 

Baldoyle Musical Society proudly presents ‘Snow White’ on Friday, January 18 at 8pm, Saturday, January 19 at 3pm and 8pm and Sunday, January 20 at 3pm at St Mary’s Secondary School, Baldoyle.

This family show will feature live music, stunning sets and costumes, plenty of audience participation, and song, dance and laughter galore!

Theatre at Trinity College 

Outlandish Theatre Platform, in partnership with First Fortnight Europe 2019 & Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital, will perform ‘Womb’ from January 14-19 at the Dance Studio at Samuel Beckett Centre, Trinity College.  

The start time is 8pm nightly and there is a matinee at 2pm on Saturday, January 19. Tickets: €15/€12. This work explores future visions for society from the perspective of the female body, framing possibilities in dystopian fantasy developed in partnership with the ensemble cast.

First Dáil Centenary Tour

Glasnevin Cemetery Museum is hosting special tours during January to mark the centenary of the sitting of the first Dáil, a momentous occasion in Irish history.

The tours are dedicated to the lives of some of the individuals who formed this cabinet, 25 of whom are buried in Glasnevin. Some of the key people featured on the tour will be Harry Boland, Cathal Brugha, Michael Collins, Éamon de Valera and Constance Markievicz.

These tours will run at 11am on Saturday and Sunday, January 19 & 20 and cost €13 for adults and €10 for students/seniors. See www.glasnevinmuseum.ie for details.

Themed Guided Tour: Biophilia

The National Botanic Gardens is hosting a special guided walk on Saturday, January 19 at 2.30pm as part of the First Fortnight Festival.

It is believed that humans have evolved to have an instinctive bond with nature, one that our increasingly urbanised life threatens to disrupt. 

This brisk post festivities stroll around the Gardens will demonstrate the effect that plants have on our physical and mental states as well as the social benefits this exposure brings to us. 

Cost is €5 per person. No booking. Meet at the Visitor Centre.

Playboy of the Western World

JM Synge’s formidable classic of Irish Theatre, The Playboy of the Western World is running from Tuesday, January 15 to Saturday 19 at 7.30pm with a matinee on the Saturday at 2.30pm at the dlr Mill Theatre, Dundrum Town Centre.

Directed by Kate Canning for Sunflower Productions, a small community in Co Mayo is thrown into turbulence with the arrival of Christy Mahon, a mysterious stranger claiming to have killed his father.

This production will be in the round, seating is unallocated and booking is advised.

Hue and Cry

Bewley’s Café Theatre and Awake and Sing Productions present Hue and Cry by Deirdre Kinahan and starring Stephen Jones and Ste Murray, as a stellar revival of a contemporary Dublin classic to launch the New Year in style.

Damian and Kevin – accidental cousins and one-time friends – haven’t seen each other for 12 years. Brought together on the eve of a family funeral, their differing aspirations and contrasted opportunities are brought into sharp focus in this unexpectedly moving drama full of humanity and dark humour. 

It runs in the Bewley’s Café Theatre until February 2, from Monday to Saturday at 1pm (doors open at 12.50pm)

Siege at Jadotville

Tallaght Library is hosting a visit by author Declan Power with a viewing of the film Siege at Jadotville and an opportunity to meet soldiers that participated on Tuesday, January 22 at 12pm
