Moscow State Circus arrives with new death-defying show
Dublin People 08 Sep 2018THE world’s most famous circus is bringing their brand-new death-defying production to Ireland.
Dublin’s Royal Hospital Kilmainham will host the Moscow State Circus when it arrives in Ireland as it celebrates 250 years of circus performances with the ultimate show to remember.
The Moscow State Circus has been planning for ‘Gostinitsa’ for the last two years and the artistes have been in training as they prepare for this world-beating performance, which promises to be truly breath taking.
The new spectacular will mark the 250th anniversary of 'The Circus', which was the brain child of Phillip Astley, a former cavalry officer who created an amphitheatre of equestrian arts on London's south-bank in 1768 and is considered to be the inventor of the modern Circus.
George Hughes worked alongside Astley until he broke away and formed his own Circus just down the road.
Hughes also toured Europe with his show and was commissioned by Catherine the Great to train the Russian horsemen and create the now famous Cossack Riders.
Circus came to Ireland early, in fact it was the first place after Britain to be fascinated by its wonder-filled ring, and it was immediately taken to Irish hearts.
Award winning clowns, the Chervotkins Duo, will guide the audience through this incredible show which features acts like the Didyk Troupe, and acrobatics on Europe’s only double Russian swings that will see them flying through the air and somersaulting from one fast moving swing to another.
The Alikhanov Troupe perform on two ten-metre poles balanced on one shoulder of a man with not one but three girls climbing and spinning to the very top of the same pole while five people walk the high wire. There are also the unicyclists the Gorodetskiys Duo and the sensational trapeze artistes the Peruskins Duo & Anna Rastsova.
This is a show that promises to have all the spectacle and nerve-tingling, edge of your seat thrills for the whole family.
It kicks off on Thursday, September 6 and runs until Sunday 16 before it travels to the Cork showgrounds on the Curraheen Road, where it runs from Thursday, September 20 and right through to Sunday, September 30.
