MOVIE: Incredibles 2 continues to astonish non-believers

‘Incredibles 2′ is well worth a watch.

FOLLOWING the success of the 2004 ‘Incredibles’ movie, a sequel was always on the cards, especially in this age of story regurgitation.

In many ways, the surprise is that it’s taken this long for the second film to arrive, and even before it lands in Ireland, worldwide box office numbers have already surpassed the original.

There seems to be no end to an audience’s desire to revisit a tried and tested movie formula, and Hollywood appears to be more than happy to feed that hunger.

With that in mind, we will stop complaining about ‘Oceans Twenty Four’, ‘Mission Impossible Ten’, or ‘Jurassic World Eight’, as it appears that’s all there is on the menu. As someone once said: we are where we are.

‘Incredibles 2’ expands upon the story of the Parr family, a seemingly ordinary grouping who share secret superpowers which now lay dormant.

Helen Parr (Elastigirl) is called upon to lead a campaign to bring ‘Supers’ back, while her husband Bob, navigates the day-to-day heroics of normal life at home with Violet, Dash and baby Jack-Jack—whose superpowers are about to be discovered.

Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a dangerous plot that threatens everything.

You know you’re in safe hands with writer/director Brad Bird (‘The Incredibles’ and ‘Ratatouille’) and the Pixar team who have brought us many movie classics such as ‘Monsters Inc.’, ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Up’.

The premise is fundamentally amusing, superpowers being used in mundane domestic settings such as family squabbles, and in many ways the scenes at home with dad looking after baby are the most enjoyable.

The voice talent is recognisable with the unmistakable Holly Hunter as ‘Elastigirl’, Craig T Nelson as ‘Mr Incredible’ and Samuel L Jackson as ‘Frozone’ all featuring.

‘Incredibles 2’ is great fun, has plenty of laughs and lots of great action for you and all your non-incredible family.

If you enjoyed the first movie you will more than likely love this sequel just as much.

We award it a review score of 4 incredible stars.
