MUSIC: Dublin singer’s beautiful night of original music for Whelan’s
Dublin People 22 Jun 2018
DUBLIN singer songwriter Ellyd will be returning to Whelan’s upstairs on Friday, June 29 to play her first headline show on what promises to be a beautiful night of original music.

Following on from the release of her successful EP ‘Lighthouse’ earlier this year, the alternative pop artist will be airing the first play of her highly anticipated new single 'Close' at this intimate show. The electro pop tune, a far cry from Ellyd’s previous offerings, perfectly blends exotic synths with sing along celestial harmonies.
‘Close’ sees the singer explore her subconscious thoughts on love and all the feelings it en-compasses. Recorded at Jam Studios with Martin Quin, the sumptuous production only elevates Ellyd’s honest and heartfelt lyrics to a whole new level.
As well as offering the first official sneak peak of her soon to be released new track, Ellyd will also be performing some of her hit songs to date as well as some new unreleased material. The singer, whose voice has been compared to the sultry haunting vocals of Gemma Hayes and Skye Edwards, first honed her talent by touring across Europe while also becoming a regular on the Irish music circuit.
After many years on the Irish music scene, she released her debut solo EP ‘Rise’ that reached number 8 in the iTunes charts.
Following the success of her first release, Ellyd has played some of Ireland’s biggest festivals and top venues including Electric Picnic, The Secret Village Festival, Battle of the Lake Festival, The Button Factory, Whelan's and The Workman's Club.
Her last EP ‘Lighthouse’ gained huge airplay on national radio including on RTE Radio One and Today FM’s ‘Ed’S Songs of Praise’ during which presenter Ed Smith said: “Absolutely love her voice. She has a big fu-ure ahead of her, absolutely…no doubt.”
Nialler9 added: “Following the success of ‘Rise’, the alternative-pop artist released her first single of 2017 called ‘Lucky’ in April. For her first material since that EP, ‘Lucky’ is her most confident and memorable song yet in 80s pop atmospherics.”
Tickets for the gig will be available from eventbrite.ie priced €8 or can be purchased for €10 at the door on the night.
