Everyone, Everywhere, Everyday
This exhibition is an illustrated journey through the north and south inner city of Dublin that is inspired by Ulysses as we trace part of the journey Leopold Bloom made through the streets.
Starting on the Northside at the Oval public house on Abbey Street and crossing over to O’Connell Street, Eva Kelly’s work observes city life while acting as a witness to each scene. The idea of this exhibition (opening in dlr Mill Theatre Gallery, Dundrum Town Centre on Saturday, June 9) is to visually capture the energy and the stream of life of contemporary Dublin.
Further Ted
This is a show that brings two popular characters from Father Ted together for a night of stand-up and musical comedy and a chance to compete in a ‘Lovely Girls’ competition.
You don't have to be a girl to enter and the winner gets a romantic candlelit night in for two, a luxury cruise in a boat of your own making and a full set of bespoke rubber gloves.
The two stars, Joe Rooney (Father Damo) and Patrick McDonnell (Eoin McLove), are renowned stand-up comedians with a unique take on Irish society.
It’s happening on Saturday, June 9, at Draíocht Studio Blanchardstown. Tickets cost €17 or €15 concessions.
Friday night soccer
Get in the mood for the World Cup with live weekend Premier Division soccer in the city. On Friday night, June 8, at 7.45pm, Bohs are hosts for Derry City while on Saturday, June 9 at 7pm Shamrock Rovers will be expecting to take three points from struggling Bray Wanderers. There’s Friday First Division action on June 8 at UCD where Drogheda United are the visitors and Cabinteely who face Longford Town. Both of those games kick off at 7.45pm.
No Smoke Without Fire
There’s post office robbery money up for grabs and scandal knows no bounds, as six women gossip intermittently in the smoking area of a Dublin pub, leaving a trail of personal information behind them. As the innocent along with the guilty suffer the stings of innuendo and the lashes of sharp tongues, a hilarious tale of crime and its consequences unfolds. A comic drama by Paddy Murray, full of sharp Dublin wit, this story of Larry, the cash, the camper van and the deceased husband are all performed with ease by acclaimed actress, Mary Murray (Love/Hate) on Thursday, June 7 at 8pm in the dlr Mill Theatre, Dundrum Town Centre.
Self-portrait
Artist Anthony Palliser is pictured with his self-portrait at the launch of ‘Face to Face – Anthony Palliser’s Irish Portraits’, a major exhibition of Irish cultural icons which is open now in Farmleigh Gallery, Phoenix Park. Other portraits on display will include Edna O’Brien, Sinéad Cusack, Colm Tóibín, Jonathan Rhys Myers, Seamus Heaney and Brian Friel.
