Winter Funderland always marks the start of Christmas

FOR generations of Dubliners, the official start of Christmas has always been marked by the opening of Funderland in the RDS, which begins a month-long run this week.

This year, Winter Funderland is bigger and better than ever and will help create unforgettable memories for all the family. 

In addition to all the popular rides, there is also an ice skating rink and Christmas market, making it Dublin’s ultimate festive event.

Wooden chalets have been built to create a village atmosphere in the Christmas market. Here you’ll find a place to relax and enjoy the specialty foods prepared by the various stallholders.

Funderland’s iSkate-On-Ice will feature Ireland’s largest 1,000 square metre outdoor skating rink. Junior skaters will love the ‘Magic Vacations’ rink, which is aimed at children aged from three years upwards, with balancing aids and double-bladed skates for those little feet. 

With over 40 attractions from around the continent, Funderland – which is Europe’s largest indoor theme park – has a spectacular array of rides for all ages, with over two and a half acres of fun under one roof. Outside the Simmonscourt Pavilion you will also find a range of outdoor fairground attractions.

Children will be spoilt for choice with Bounce World, Dizzy Drivers, Helicopters, Euro Rallye, Fun Factory, The Wild West, Chair-O-Planes, and Toy Town, to name but some.

Other highlights include the new Santa’s Family Roller Coaster, the Magic Cirkus, Christmas Dumbo, the New Haunted House, Ice Jet, the Jungle River flume ride, the waltzer, dodgems and carousel.

Adrenaline junkies will also be catered for with ultimate thrill rides including the all-new Exciter, which joins favourites such as the Take-Off, Frisbee, Zero Gravity, the Extreme and the Speed Loop Roller Coaster.
