HAPPENINGS: A few things worth checking out this week

Art Source RDS Fair

Irish art lovers have the chance to get their hands on 100 pieces of original artwork for €100 – as well as works by Banksy – at Ireland’s premier art fair Art Source, which will be held at the RDS from November 10-12.

Over 15,000 people are expected to view exhibits from artists across all genres in the year’s biggest art show. Admission is €10 adults, €8 OAPs. Children under 16 free, only if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Opening times: Friday Nov 10: 11am-9pm, Sat Nov 11: 10am-6pm, Sun Nov 12: 10am-6pm.

St Anne’s Park run

Mums, dads, sons and daughters across Dublin are invited to take part in a 5k Fun Run with Boyzlife singer Keith Duffy and friends this weekend, with the support of Costcutter.

The event kicks off from 2pm this Sunday, November 12, in St Anne’s Park, Raheny. An individual ticket is €15, parent and child ticket is €25 or a family ticket is €40. Register now on keithduffyfoundation.ie

Funds raised from the Father and Son Run will go towards supporting families affected by autism, and Fighting Blindness.  

The Knitting & Stitching Show 

Ireland’s longest-running textile arts and crafts event, The Knitting & Stitching Show, returns this month with an unmissable line up of world-class artists. 

Taking place from November 9-12 at the RDS, visitors are guaranteed to be wowed by the workings of some of Ireland and the UK’s most celebrated textile curators.

Coolock walking club

A community walk catering for all ages and levels of fitness takes place every Tuesday at 9.45am in the Stardust Memorial Park, Coolock. 

Parents, grandparents and strollers are welcome after the school drop-off. No booking needed. Just turn up and join them for a walk.

WW1 Remembrance Weekend

The National Gallery of Ireland is presenting a special programme in honour of Remembrance Weekend on Saturday November 11 and Sunday November 12.

Visitors can view two exhibitions chronicling the terrors of war: Aftermath: The War Landscapes of William Orpen and Käthe Kollwitz: Life, Death and War.

There will also be a Remembrance concert in the Shaw Room on Sunday, November 12 at 3.30pm by Kaleidoscope featuring performances from Fionnuala Moynihan, Deirdre Moynihan, Ficino Ensemble. Further details from www.nationalgallery.ie.

Fat Chancers

Comedians Karl Spain and Bernard O’Shea have decided to drop a few pounds together and go on tour.

The two comedians will be performing stand-up around Ireland in 2017 and 2018 and their side-splitting show comes to Axis Ballymun, Main Street Ballymun, on Friday, November 10.

Bite Me

This is the story of Joanne McNally’s amaaaaaaazing diet. She didn’t just lose weight though; she lost jobs, friends and fellas, but she didn’t care because she could wear bangles as belts and that’s all that mattered. Then one day, over her morning carrot, Joanne realized she’d lost her mind. Trying to entice it back became the hardest, funniest, greatest and weirdest time of her life.

This Beach

This is a blistering satire of white western privilege made in response to the global refugee crisis and the notion of sovereignty of one people over a piece of land; and the lengths people will go to bar entry to their dominion.

Performed by Brokentalkers in association with Project Arts Centre, This Beach was written and directed by Feidlim Cannon and Gary Keegan.
