MUSIC: Deacon Blue celebrate 30 years on stage

DEACON Blue will be celebrating 30 years when they take to the stage of the Olympia Theatre on November 14 next year.

Their 2018 Tour, ‘To Be Here Someday’, will mark three decades since the band first formed.

In the last five years Deacon Blue have seen something of a creative surge, and the band’s renaissance has resulted in the release of three new albums in quick succession. 

In fact, 2016’s studio album, ‘Believers’, became their highest charting album in 23 years. 

‘To Be Here Someday’ is a tour that celebrates the band’s entire career, and will see them play some of their biggest ever shows.

 They will return to London’s iconic Hammersmith Apollo for the first time in 10 years as part of the new tour which will also include three arena shows at Liverpool’s Echo Arena and the AECC Arena in Aberdeen before they hit Dublin’s Olympia theatre.

 Lead singer Ricky Ross said: “This will be the first time we have toured without a new album in over five years. The announcement happens to coincide with 30 years of Deacon Blue so we’re going to make the tour a celebration of the band. 

“It’s an opportunity for us to play songs from ‘Raintown’ all the way through to ‘Believers’.” 

 The tour’s title, ‘To Be Here Someday’, is a line from their iconic single ‘Dignity’ and encapsulates the band’s hopes, their passion and joy in being able to share with their fans the biggest songs from throughout their career. 

As has become a feature of their live shows, they will present a set list that will change night by night but will always be full of classic Deacon Blue.

So if you want to relive the bands biggest hits, such as ‘Real Gone Kid’, ‘Chocolate Girl’ and ‘Fergus Sings the Blues’, put the date November 14, 2018, in your gig diary. Trust us – it will be worth the wait.
