Press Photographer of the Year Exhibition 2017
The Press Photographers Association of Ireland’s annual awards recognise, reward and honour excellence in the field of press photography. This exhibition is running at dlr LexIcon, Dun Laoghaire, until June 30. Maeve Binchy Writers Walk
Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre’s ‘Maeve Binchy and famous Irish Writers Walk’ is returning for a second year due to the phenomenal success of last year.
Taking place on Thursdays at 6.30pm and Fridays at 1.15pm until September, visitors can discover how Maeve approached writing her novels while also learning about the work of forty-five creative artists including Joyce, Bono and Beckett.
Visitors then walk along the streets of Dalkey, enjoying snippets of work from Maeve, James Joyce, Flann O’Brien and more, while hearing anecdotes of famous writer encounters from the entertaining and knowledgeable guides at the different locations along the route.

Rose & Sweet Pea Show
Balbriggan and District Horticultural Society is holding its annual Rose & Sweet Pea Show in the stunning grounds of Ardgillan Castle on Sunday, July 2.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 2pm to 5pm. Exhibits must be staged/entered before 12 noon. Admission is free. Flowers will be sold at close of show. For more information, phone 087-7520506.
Statues and Sculptures
Howth Peninsula Heritage Society will present a talk by Neal Doherty, entitled ‘The Statues and Sculptures of Dublin’, in the Howth Angling Centre, West Pier on Tuesday, June 27 at 8pm. Admission to non-members is €5.
Community Walk
A community walk catering for all ages and levels of fitness takes place every Tuesday at 9.45am in the Stardust Memorial Park, Coolock.
Parents, grandparents and strollers are welcome after the school drop-off. No booking needed. Just turn up and join them for a walk.

Sound Check
Make some noise this summer at Science Gallery Dublin’s Sound Check.
Break out your old mix tapes, swing your way to melodic bliss or rock up to the Noise Studio to make your own synth.
Sound Check, the new free exhibition at Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin, promises a noisy cacophony that will make your hair stand on end and your stomach vibrate!
Visitors to Sound Check will become performers alongside hackers, designers and scientists, inventing new instruments and collaborating to explore the outer edge of tomorrow’s sound.

MCM Ireland Comic Con
MCM Ireland Comic Con is on at the RDS on Saturday and Sunday, July 1 & 2. Main Stage Wrestling will be there with live wrestling matches throughout the weekend and there’s a chance to meet stars from both big and small screens along with games experts and voice artists. Stitched up Sundays
There’s a series of sew and print workshops taking place in Glasnevin every Sunday in July. The workshops are suitable for all levels of ability and are being held in Three Sisters Craft, 187 Botanic Road. The first one on sewing an envelope cushion is from 1.30-5pm on Sunday, July 2 and the €45 cost includes materials, beverages and snacks. Secret Screenings
Following the success of their previous Secret Screenings, Omniplex have announced their third event in the series taking place on Wednesday, June 28 at 6.45pm in four Omniplex locations.
As with all Secret Screenings, Omniplex promises a major new film before it goes on general release but with only the genre revealed in advance. Tickets, priced at €10 are available to My Omniplex members on www.omniplex.ie and include a medium size popcorn and drink.
