TRAVEL: New services at Dublin Airport announced

DUBLIN Airport welcomed the announcement of new services last week including twice-weekly flights to Stockholm from Norwegian.

Dublin Airport Managing Director, Vincent Harrison, said the Stockholm route, together with a recent increase in frequency on its Dublin-Oslo service, represents a 50 per cent surge in capacity on Norwegian’s routes between Dublin and Scandinavia this summer.

“We are delighted to welcome Norwegian’s new Dublin to Stockholm service,” he added.

“And we look forward to welcoming the airline’s two new transatlantic routes from Dublin in a few weeks.”

Norwegian first launched services from Dublin Airport in 2009 to Copenhagen and Oslo.  The airline is growing its business from Dublin further with the addition of a daily transatlantic flight to Stewart International in New York state and a five times weekly service to Providence, Rhode Island from July 1.

Meanwhile, Lufthansa has announced the addition of a fourth daily service on its Dublin to Frankfurt route this winter.

That means Lufthansa’s service between Dublin and Frankfurt will increase from 21 to 28 flights per week representing a 30 per cent increase in capacity when the winter schedule begins at the end of October.

It’s Lufthansa’s sixth expansion of its Dublin services since 2014.

“The increase in capacity is testament to the popularity of Frankfurt and the onward connections that they offer and will provide further flexibility and choice for consumers,” said Harrison.

Andreas Koester of Lufthansa said Dublin had continued to shine as a key market for Lufthansa within its network.

“The demand for our services has continued to grow and we have been able to increase capacity accordingly,” he added.

“This, along with the recent introduction of Lufthansa’s double daily service between Dublin and Munich and the twice weekly service between Cork and Geneva with Swiss, reaffirms the Lufthansa Group as the biggest foreign Airline Group in Ireland.

“This growing demand for seats on our flights proves once again that discerning travellers appreciate the way Lufthansa has responded to the challenges of the travel market in the face of ever-increasing competition.

“To maintain the leading position in our market we must be better than anyone else in terms of reliability and innovation at a competitive price.  Our passengers also know that when they book with Lufthansa they are guaranteed to receive our high-quality on-board service.”

The Lufthansa Group, which also includes SWISS and Eurowings currently has 65 weekly departures from Dublin Airport to Cologne, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Munich and Zurich.

Lufthansa has been operating at Dublin Airport since 1972 and has carried almost 6.3 million passengers on its services since then.
