TRAVEL: The ultimate transatlantic bucket list

NO DESTINATION on the planet can offer more holiday diversity than North America.

There’s a wealth of experiences waiting to be enjoyed and many of them are worthy of any respectable bucket list.

North America specialists, American Holidays, has come up with a top ten list of things you really should see before it’s time to kick your bucket.

Empire State Building New York:

Soar up to the top at 102 floors high and see all of Manhattan, and you’ll   be reminded that it is an island!

Be sure to look into pre-buying a ticket so you can skip the line. Or beat the busy queues at 11am-3pm and go about 8am, or visit late, as it stays open till 2am in the morning.

Bellagio Fountains Las Vegas:

Take in a spectacular show of music, water and light that is watchable every ½ hour, and it’s free!

Each performance is unique so it doesn’t matter how many times you see it! Book a restaurant at the Bellagio and get the best views!

Alcatraz, San Francisco:

Catch a ferry from Fisherman’s Wharf over to Alcatraz Island, and go back in history on an audio walking tour of this former federal penitentiary. Be sure to book well ahead, as Alcatraz regularly sells out weeks in advance.

Coastal Drive California:

Drive down the Pacific Coast on over 1,000km of stunning coastal views, seaside villages, untouched forest and sunny wine districts.

We advise driving from San Francisco south, so you get the best views on your road trip.

Walt Disney World Florida:

This is where dreams can come true at six enchanted lands with over 40 magical attractions, two exciting nighttime entrainment districts and a cutting edge sport complex.

Now add in countless opportunities for dining, shopping, recreation and relaxation and remember, it’s not just for kids, although you can use them as an excuse to go!

Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame, LA:

Follow in the footsteps of many actors and see over 2,500 brass stars along 15 blocks. You’re almost obliged to get your photo taken with your favourite one!

Niagara Falls Toronto:

If you’re looking for some breathtaking views, your time at Niagara Falls will be sure not to disappoint, with it being one of the great wonders of the world.

We recommend booking a tour of ‘Journey Behind the Falls’ and ‘Maid of the Mist’ where you will get the closest views, but be sure to bring a raincoat!

If you have time, try stay overnight, look into Niagara on the Lake, where you will have an opportunity to enjoy a winery tour including a wine tasting.

National Parks:

In 2016 the USA celebrated the centennial year of its National Parks. Choose from Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Yellow Stone, Everglades, Death Valley National Park and more

Fall in New England:

There’s a good reason to drive across New England in autumn, and once you do it, you’ll know why. Acres of glorious foliage turns from green into a kaleidoscope of colours, and the air is crisp and cool making it perfect for driving, biking or hiking.

Music Nashville:

Music City is where people come in their thousands to enjoy concerts, events, festivals and awards shows all themed around music. This is also the place to be on Monday, August 21, 2017, when first total solar eclipse to sweep across the United States in 99 years happens, and Nashville is right in its path.
