Al Porter announces Honeymoon Tour
Dublin People 26 Aug 2016
A NATIONAL tour has been announced by comedian Al Porter who, during last year’s Edinburgh Comedy Festival was described as “destined for arenas” by Loaded magazine.

A radio and television regular, Al Porter is fast becoming one of the most popular, outspoken and culturally relevant comics in the country.
Al broke records with last year’s debut ‘Al Porter Is Yours’ – a sell out rave-review run in Soho and he holds the record for being the youngest entertainer to headline and sell out Dublin’s Vicar Street (four times).
At last year’s Vodafone Comedy festival, he received standing ovations for each of his shows, which underpinned his popularity as one of Ireland’s most exciting young talents. Since then, he has supported Michael McIntyre and starred in his own Sky Arts short with Pauline McLynn (which he co-wrote with Karl Spain).
Al Porter At Large – The Honeymoon Tour sees Al take on his most ambitious tour to date with over 30 theatre shows in the diary and more being added due to phenomenal demand.
Building on his reputation as a consummate showman – unlike many modern comics – the suited and booted Al Porter performs well over an hour of hilarious stories, including sketches, and songs.
At Vicar Street and Cork Opera House punters can also expect to be treated to a showbiz spectacle with his 8-piece band The Sugar Cubes (who have gigged with Julio Iglesias and Johnny Logan to name a few), and his confetti cannons.
An incredibly unique talent – Al remains both larger than life and very grounded and still lives at home in Tallaght where he was born and bred.
Despite being one of Ireland’s most popular light entertainers, in the past few weeks on shows such as Brendan O Connor’s Cutting Edge he has shown his intelligence and understanding of social issues by addressing such topics as Dublin’s gangland violence, the issues around social media and going to therapy which has gained him a new fan base.
The new show ‘Al Porter At Large – The Honeymoon Tour’, which will be unveiled for the first time at the Edinburgh Festival showcases his maturity as a comedian – getting big laughs on topics such as faith, relation-ships, family, sex and sexuality and class divides.
Although only 23-years-of-age Al has been entertaining people for over 12 years, from starting as a child actor on the stage of The Olympia (I, Keano and Bugsy Malone, to name a few) to now writing, starring and co-producing the Olympia Panto ‘Freezin’ last year and this season’s ‘The Ugly Sisters and Yer Wan’.
Imbued in the world of entertainment, Al has great knowledge about the world of comedy – indeed his house is decorated with comedy memorabilia from a signed Laurel & Hardy poster to a pair of black and white striped trousers from Billy Connolly.
Al said of his new tour: “I’m delighted to be back with a brand new show.
“Punters entrust you with one night’s entertainment that they have spent their hard earned cash on.
“So, I want to give them a great show that’s a bit of spectacle with lots of laughs, songs and spontaneity.”
Al plays five nights at Vicar Street, on September 9 and 10 and on October 1, 7, and 8.
