MUSIC: Booka Brass are next up at Leopardstown

AHEAD of Booka Brass’ gig at Bulmers Live at Leopardstown this week, we caught up with trumpet player Paul Kiernan.

1. Most memorable moment in Dublin?
Walking along the quays with our instruments when a character, who might have had a couple of casuals, sees Jack’s Sousaphone and shouts over: “Here, Make that do Noise wouldja?”
2. First album you bought and last album you bought?
ACDC – ‘If You Want Blood You’ve Got It’; Jaco Pastorius – ‘Invitation’.
3. When you’re not playing music, what else do you do?
‘Fallout 4’ is much more addictive than I thought, so playing PlayStation.
4. Who are your influences?
Youngblood Brass Band, Hot 8 Brass Band, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Vulfpeck, Hiatus Kaiyote, Snarky Puppy, Arturo Sandoval, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong… and loads more!
5. Who would make up your ideal band with you as lead singer?
There’s a reason I play trumpet!
6. Any tips on life?
Be sound and do what you enjoy doing as much as possible.
7. First person you’d invite to your party?
The Rubberbandits.
8. Last person you’d invite to your party?
A toss up between Donald Trump and Denis O’Brien.
