MUSICAL: Baldoyle witches to cast their spell

FOLLOWING record-breaking attendances at the panto ‘Frozen Solid’ in January, ice and snow make way for spells and magic as ‘The Witches of Eastwick’ visit St Mary’s Hall for the Baldoyle Musical Society’s spring show.

Running for five nights from April 19 – 23, this lively show promises some toe-tapping tunes, lively dancing, bawdy humour and saucy sorcery.

Based on the hit movie of the same name (featuring Jack Nicholson, Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer and Susan Sarandon) it tells the story of three repressed and frustrated women who all wish for that very special man in their lives.

When the devilishly handsome and suave Darryl van Horne appears each thinks their prayers have been answered.

However, Darryl sets about seducing each in turn, opening their eyes to their own inner desires and powers – and scandalising the sedate town of Eastwick along the way.

The girls are informed that they are actually witches and they soon realise that their relationship with van Horne is spiralling out of control, putting the whole town at risk, so they decide to try and use their powers to rid themselves of his corrupting influence – cue a battle royale between the dark forces on both sides!

Chairman Richie Smith is very enthusiastic about the spectacle that awaits patrons.

“This is a very lively, funny, sometimes a little crude and always entertaining romp on the dark side,” he said. “We have a great chorus and an incredibly talented front line ready to dazzle.

“This show is a huge production, particularly in terms of the singing and we are especially pleased to have cast the show entirely from within our own membership. I predict people are going to be amazed at the talent we have on show, right through the singing, acting and dancing and I look forward to welcoming our audiences next week.

Patrons are advised to book online at www.baldoylemusicalsociety.ie or call 0851378329 for group bookings.
