THE late Brian Lenihan’s former constituency secretary, Marian Quinlan, has officially nominated independent councillor David McGuinness as a candidate in General Election 2016.

Ms Quinlan resigned from Fianna Fail last year and is supporting McGuinness who also quit the party in 2015. McGuinness handed in his resignation after Cllr Jack Chambers was selected ahead of him to run for Fianna Fail at a stormy selection convention.

Cllr McGuinness faces an uphill battle in the four seat constituency but has performed well in previous elections when running as a Fianna Fail candidate.

“The consistency of people supporting Independents is undeniable and Marian Quinlan’s support for my campaign shows the extent of the collapse of party support in Dublin West,” said McGuinness.

“I will use Marian’s expertise, as the longest serving constituency secretary in Dublin West, to run a vigorous campaign and show my commitment to delivering for families.”

Cllr McGuinness is running as an Independent Alliance candidate.
