Web Fest first for Dublin
Dublin People 06 Nov 2015
ALL the media focus was on the Dublin Web Summit last week and while we won’t be seeing it back in Dublin for the foreseeable future another tech event will be making its debut in the capital later this month.
Dublin Web Fest, the first Web Series Festival in Ireland, will run from November 20-22 and will celebrate the power of online storytelling by gathering directors, writers, producers and distributors from all over the world.
The festival aims to bring together the movers and makers of the digital media and tech worlds to participate in an “amazing creative and collaborative event”.
Co-founder of the Web Fest, Mikael Thiery, said Dublin was a natural choice for the event.
“Ireland is a unique place,” the Dublin based French filmmaker and producer said.
“It has an historical tradition of famous writers and storytellers, and is an important film production hub.
“At the same time, the biggest high tech companies have their European headquarters here. Tech savviness and creative edge make it the perfect match!”
Thiery’s co-founder partner, Erol Mustafov, believes Ireland is a great web series and digital content hub.
“We want to be the starting point for that future,” he said. “During the festival, we will be hosting panels, screenings, workshops and events on the A-Z of digital content today.”
The three-day festival has partnered with Filmbase in Temple Bar to host presentations, discussions, panels and other events.
The Dub Web Fest has partnered with other international web festivals all over the world including ones in Los Angeles, San Francisco, UK, Berlin, Rome, Washington and Carballo.
Web Fests are festivals dedicated to online series known as web series. The first was launched in Los Angeles in 2010 and since then, more than 30 festivals have emerged throughout the world.
