A NORTHSIDE based dog welfare charity has revealed details of how it rescued two Chihuahua dogs found in horrific condition.

Tommy and Tina (pictured below) were rescued by Dogs Trust in Finglas after they were found straying and unwanted in Rathdrum, Co Wicklow, last month.

The Chihuahua cross pair arrived into Dogs Trust after been treated for initial injuries at Wicklow pound.

Both dogs were severely underweight with matted coats, severe hair loss and suffering from painful eye infections.

Staff at Dogs Trust say the pair were terrified on arrival and had clearly been through a hugely traumatic episode at the hands of their original owner who has not been identified.

“Sadly we see abandoned dogs every day on the front line at Dogs Trust but Tommy and Tina are not your typical abandoned dogs,

? said Kathrina Bentley, Head of Marketing at Dogs Trust.

“What they highlight is that so called

‘designer’ dogs can be heartlessly disregarded too, just like many other breeds.

“Thankfully we were in a position and had space to take both dogs in as a pair and give them the expert veterinary care that they required here on site with our brilliant vet team.

“They possibly originated from a breeder who felt they couldn’t be sold on.’

After lots of TLC at Dogs Trust both Tommy and Tina were rehomed together last week to a loving family.
