Dublin dazzle at Wembley

Now that we’ve convinced ourselves that Dublin will be All-Ireland champs next month after last weekend’s victory over Fermanagh maybe it’s time for a bit of GAA nostalgia.

Believe it or not, Wembley Stadium regularly played host to GAA matches in the ’60s and ’70’s. There was around 26 games at the famous English stadium.

The British GAA were behind the venture and arranged exhibition games known as ‘Wembley at Whit’ and it was an annual event. The games usually featured All-Ireland semi-finalists, runners-up and winners.

British Movietone has uploaded this classic clash between Dublin and Kerry, which took place in 1976, a year after they met in the All-Ireland final when the Dubs lost by 2-11 to 0-12.
