Bright burlesque future for Fifi

A NORTHSIDE circus performer is looking forward to a bright future in burlesque following her appearance in the final of a national competition.

Fifi La Roux, from Balrothery, competed for the Miss Burlesque Ireland title at the Button Factory, Dublin, last month.

After picking up a hula-hoop at a music festival during 2012, Fifi was introduced to the world of circus, burlesque and the cabaret scene, which is at its strongest in Dublin city.

After realising that there was nowhere to train around Balrothery, Fifi branched out to the city and began training in the art of Aerial Acrobatics through PaperDolls, a collaborative aerial performance company, and pole dance at the Irish Pole Dance Academy.

There, she underwent serious conditioning and training, perfecting her skills and understanding of performance.

In 2013, only a year after beginning her journey, Fifi was presented with the opportunity to travel across America with a traditional circus, the Kelly Miller Circus.

After returning in September that year, Fifi was full of energy and drive to create. She realised what was needed to become a successful performer in Ireland, and threw herself at any opportunity that arose.

In 2014 she travelled to Milan to train for five months along with studying in the Brera Academy of Fine Art.

A bright future as a stage performer beckons for Fifi!
