DUBLIN Bus is on course to celebrate the one millionth download of its popular Dublin Bus app.

The million milestone is expected to happen this week and Dublin Bus has been number crunching to mark the occasion, and has come up with some interesting statistics.

The app provides Dubliners with real-time info so they can plan their journeys around the city, meaning less time waiting at bus stops.

Not surprisingly Dubliners make most use of the app when commuting between 7am and 9am and 4pm and 6.30pm with 95 per cent of sessions taking place between those hours.

Stops on O’Connell Street and College Green are among the most popular searched for, along with stops at Blanchardstown Town Centre and Pavilions Shopping Centre, Swords.

The most popular bus routes searched for are route 16 between Ballinteer and Dublin Airport, route 15 between Clongriffin and Ballycullen Road, and route 75 between The Square Tallaght and Dun Laoghaire. Average monthly downloads of the app are 8,927 for iPhone and 10,511 for Android and the month of June 2015 saw over 5.1 million different sessions using the app, with over 15 million different screens viewed within it.

The free app also allows users search for top events and venues across the city, including music and sporting venues. The handy app also allows Dubs and visitors to the city search for the hottest venues in town, and find out what Dublin Bus number will get them there.

“Whether it’s commuting to work, heading to a soccer match, going to a concert or having a family day out in Dublin Zoo, the app advises users on the best and easiest way to get there and back,

? a spokesperson said.

“It even includes a news section so that customers can check in and keep up to date on events that could affect their journeys.

Dublin Bus has been a part of the fabric of city streets and lives in the capital since becoming a separate entity from CIE in 1987. It now operates 110 routes, including 19 high-frequency ones that criss-cross the city.

Last year saw 119 million customer trips taken on Dublin Bus and the figure is set to rise for 2015.

The Dublin Bus app is available to download from the iTunes App Store or for Android from Google Play Store.
