DUBLIN’S bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2020 received a boost last week from a world famous Northside band.

Last Wednesday (July 15), 35 musicians from the Artane School of Music (formally known as the Artane Boys’ Band) surprised commuters at Connolly Station with a pop up performance of

‘Twist and Shout’. The Artane School of Music is the latest to join the

‘Dublin2020’ bid campaign.

The European Capital of Culture is awarded for a period of one calendar year, highlighting the diversity, richness and integration of cultures in Europe and the chosen city.

For 2020, Ireland and Croatia have been announced as Europe’s chosen countries.

Four cities in Ireland are now competing to win the designation for the country.

By mid October a panel of European judges will decide if Dublin will progress to the second round of this selection process.

To ensure Dublin is shortlisted, the

‘Dublin2020’ team is working to spread the word, to get Dubliners involved and to join in the conversation on Twitter, Facebook and in person.

Awareness is at the core of

‘Dublin2020’ and the main aim is to spread the word across communities by asking Dubliners to get talking – to the

‘Dublin2020’ team and to each other.

Anyone interested in getting behind

‘Dublin2020’ and sharing their ideas about how to help the city make a successful European Capital of Culture bid, can contact the team through www.dublin2020.eu or get in touch via twitter @dublin2020bid.
