OVER 150 expectant parents, new parents, babies and toddlers, including a large number from the Northside, attended an event recently to learn about the importance of nutrition in the early days of a child’s life.

The First 1000 Days Café, a pop up restaurant with chef and First 1000 Days ambassador, Neven Maguire, took place at Airfield, Dundrum.

Over the weekend of July 4 and 5, families and expectant parents joined Neven as he served up deliciously nutritious meals which he carefully created in conjunction with the First 1000 Days group.

Diners enjoyed a three-course lunch or dinner courtesy of Neven and First 1000 Days, which covers four key stages from pregnancy, breastfeeding, weaning on to solid foods through to toddler stage.

The figure of 1,000 is derived from 270 days during pregnancy, plus 365 days in years one and two of a child’s life. Good nutrition in the first 1,000 days offers parents a unique window of opportunity to secure the long-term health and development of their baby.

A growing body of research indicates that getting nutrition right for infants and toddlers can ensure a lifetime of good health and a reduced risk of obesity and heart disease.
