Garden delights for cathedral’s fun festival

IT WILL be green fingers all this weekend as the Dublin Garden Festival 2015 gets underway at Christ Church Cathedral.

Taking place from June 19 – 21 the famous cathedral’s grounds will be transformed into a magical wonderland for the weekend as it is adorned with floral displays alongside a summer
market of food, craft and garden stalls.
There will be everything from celebrity talks and gardening workshops to The Mad Hatters Tea Party for the kids.
Experts and panellists from the worlds of food, gardening and the media will be there to talk about such topics as horticulture, food of the future, urban gardens, birds of prey, the weather, bees and gardening for beginners.
Award-winning floral artist Christopher White is artistic director and he is creating a stunning display of contemporary and traditional floral designs in keeping with the theme of this year’s festival
‘Open your Imagination’.
‘Gardening with the Experts’ with award winning gardeners Diarmuid Gavin, Jane McCorkell, Helen Dillon, Fiann Ã? Nualáinn features a series of talks taking place in the cathedral’s historic Music Room, with topics ranging from upcycling to flower arranging.
Outside, adorning the grounds will be a mecca of horticultural displays, Irish food produce, urban gardens, birds of prey, craft demonstrations and live entertainment.
Diarmuid will also be hosting a celebrity talk along with a Champagne breakfast.
Speaking at the launch he said it felt great to be involved with the Dublin Garden Festival this year.
“It is a testament to Christ Church that they can have such a magnificent event right in the heart of the city with something for all the family,
? he said.
Guest speakers will include Irish media personality and broadcasters Eamon Dunphy and Ivan Yates; former Green Party politician and author of
‘Trevor’s Kitchen Garden’, Trevor Sargent, and gardening expert Helen Dillon.
Jane McCorkell, landscaping architect and five-time Gold Medal winner at Bloom, and award-winning florist and Chelsea Flower Show medallist Christopher White will also speak at the festival.
There will also be gardening workshops with Fiann � Nualláin while for the kids there will be a Mad Hatters Tea Party, a petting zoo and numerous craft demonstrations.
