‘Power is more suited to Labour’ – Cllr Brabazon

A LOCAL Fianna Fáil councillor has strongly criticised Senator Averil Power’s decision to quit the party.

Cllr Tom Brabazon, who represents Beaumont-Donaghmede, described Power’s resignation as

“politically motivated

? and claimed she would not have made it through a convention to run for the party in Dublin Bay North.

He believes that her views on issues such as same-sex marriage put her at the most liberal end of the political spectrum within the party which make her

“possibly more suited idealogically

? to Labour than Fianna Fáil.

He described her comments that Fianna Fáil were not fit for Government as

“contemptible

? and accused her of

“eating the hand that had fed her

?.

There will be little love lost between Cllr Brabazon and Senator Power after the pair clashed publicly in March over his controversial views on gender quotas in politics.

Cllr Brabazon said he intends to seek a nomination from Fianna Fáil to contest the general election in Dublin Bay North.
